The UGT root augers have been specially developed for investigating forest soils. The tube is made of stainless V2A steel as standard and enables a large sample volume to be taken. This allows an undisturbed soil column to be obtained despite the presence of roots, with the enclosed roots remaining as part of the sample. During the drilling process, the drill offers a high degree of stability thanks to its solid tube design in comparison to conventional gouge and groove augers. Depending on the soil conditions and root strength of the existing plants, the cutter cuts through roots of up to 5-10 mm.
For easier insertion into the ground and easier recovery, there is an impact head with a cross-hole that allows a steel handle or pulling device to be attached. Depending on the design, the inspection window or the half-sided opening after drilling allows easy access to the drill core, making it easier to approach the soil profile and remove the sample.
Please note that the cutting edge is not suitable for skeleton-rich soils and strong roots, and can be damaged!
